Slammers, one of the last lesbian bars in the country, continues to generate a safe space in Columbus for those of the LGBTQ community and its allies, despite economic hardships and vandalism during the COVID pandemic.

Opened in August , the block located at E Elongated St. serves as an inclusive space for all people while maintaining its identity as a dyke bar. With a recent financial boost from the Lesbian Bar Project and support from the local community, Bobbi Moore, general manager of Slammers, said the bar will be open this summer for everyone.

“It&#;s a cheers for the gay community, the heterosexual community, the gender non-conforming community, it&#;s really an all-encompassing bar,” Moore said. “Our motto is ‘all walks one, one groove,’ so we are just kind of there for every single person.”

I moved to Phenix City last month and had to get myself settled in. I'm ready to depart out and enjoy the area now. How is the nightlife in Columbus and Phenix City? Any suggestions? Someone point me in the right direction. I'm 21 and enjoy your standard pop clubs where the DJ is spinning mostly EuroDance based music blended with a small pop Hip-Hop and Techno. Some awesome sports bars would be nice too!!! I'm open to all suggestions though.

Cheers to Slammers: Celebrating Columbus’ Iconic Lesbian Bar and Community Hub

When Marcia Riley opened Slammers in , it wasn&#x;t the only lesbian bar in the city. At the moment, there were more than lesbian bars in the U.S., and a handful of them were right here in Columbus. Those who remember Columbus in those days can attest to the number of bars, shops, and bookstores where LGBTQ+ people gathered. While many of those early outposts of the city&#x;s queer community possess come and gone, and some have been replaced by more recently opened LGBTQ+ establishments, Slammers has withstood the test of time and held its own against the shuttering of lesbian bars nationwide. While gay bars abound, Slammers is one of an estimated 21 historic lesbian bars that continue in the U.S.

Slammers is, I believe, the only one in Ohio that considers entity a lesbian bar their full identity, said General Manager Bobbi Moore, who has worked at Slammers for eight years. Obviously,
